The Society of Active Retirees (SOAR), an initiative sponsored by Wayne State University that provides educational courses for adults 50 and older, is featured. A volunteer faculty, mainly retired and current Wayne State faculty members, along with former faculty of other local universities, presents 50 classes and lectures. Cultural field trips, a book club and social lunches are other programming options offered through SOAR.
